John F. Germany Library Tour

Please join the Center for Architecture & Design, Tampa Bay for a tour of the John F. Germany Library in downtown Tampa, one of our community's most outstanding mid-century modern buildings. Designed by architectural firms McLane, Ranon, McIntosh & Bernardo, and McElvy & Jennewein at a total cost of $3.2 million, the 100,000 sq ft facility held more than 500,000 books when it opened in 1968.

This free tour will be held on Saturday, September 16 from 10-11:30. We will gather in the spherical auditorium (designed by Angel Oliva and Gus Paras, AIA) and learn about underlying design decisions before exploring the exterior and interior of the main building - particularly the special collections on the 4th floor.

Amy Espinosa, our tour guide, is the founder of Dots & Cubes, a Tampa-based consulting firm focused on improving information architecture within urban and digital environments. Her current work provides a way for people to understand the history and culture of a place as they wander through it, encouraging curiosity to be the guide. This tour is free, and is open to the first 24 participants. Registration is required on Eventbrite.
